How to interpret success rates
When reviewing success rates, first check what is being measured. Some data are calculated per started cycle, per retrieval, per transfer, or per embryo transfer. These numbers cannot always be compared directly across clinics or patient groups.
More useful questions include:
- What outcomes are seen in patients with a similar age, AMH, and AFC;
- How many patients who need PGT obtain a transferable embryo;
- How stable the freeze-thaw results are;
- How cumulative chances are discussed across more than one cycle;
- What backup plan exists if a cycle produces few embryos.
What can be optimized
Before treatment, it helps to:
- Prepare AMH, ultrasound, hormone testing, and reproductive history;
- Complete semen analysis and consider DNA fragmentation testing when indicated;
- Understand stimulation monitoring and medication adjustment;
- Ask about blastocyst culture and freeze-thaw performance;
- Decide whether PGT makes sense based on embryo number;
- Check lining, hormone levels, and inflammation before transfer.
The best plan is not always the most complicated one. It is the one where each step answers a specific clinical question.
